Domaine DEPEYRE story of a passion........
It all began in 1995 when Serge DEPEYRE met Brigitte BILE during their studies. They decided to settle in Roussillon to make high-class wines.
Presentation:
Between Rivesaltes and Maury, 10 min from Perpignan, the domain of 13 ha created in 2002 is located in the valley of Agly. The region is volcanic and calcareous, primarily made up of marls and black schists. The distribution of these type of vines on these soils and these different exposures make the wines complex. With our passion for this hard and generous soil, in love with this authentic region we cultivate and age our vines in the purest tradition.
Farming methods:
The domain was reorganized by pulling out existing vines and restocking with grape varieties with the most qualitative clones and with massala selections
The vineyard is made up of 5 grape varieties; Black Grenache, Carignan, Lladoner pelut, Syrah, Mourvédre.
The density of plantation is 4000 vinestocks/ha for one part of the vineyard and 7000 vinestocks/ha for the other part.
We do not treat in a routine manner but observe and analyse the soil,
the bunches of grapes, leaves ......regularly. Respecting the environment and its soil, Serge does not use
chemical fertilizers, he uses organic matter.
A mule partly does the ploughings.
Wine-making:
Grape harvesting is done manually. Grapes are completely destalked.
Fermentation lasts over 3 to 4 weeks on an average, traditional wine making makes use of indigenous yeasts only. Marcs are pressed in a traditional wooden vertical press.
The wine is not filtered, not fined; one part remains in oak barrels for 9 to 18 months and the other part in tanks.
